Ticking Heart Wins Innovation Booster Grant!

We’re thrilled to announce that Ticking Heart has been awarded the prestigious Innovation Booster Grant by the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation. This grant will support our project titled “Non-Invasive Transdermal Troponin Biomarker Detection for Heart Attack Screening.”

With this funding, we’re developing a prototype device that promises to streamline the diagnosis of potential heart attacks and assist medical practitioners in triaging chest pain cases in Emergency Departments. Currently, troponin levels are commonly monitored through blood tests to determine if someone may be having a heart attack. Our innovative approach uses light reflected from the skin—similar to how smartwatches measure blood oxygen levels—to measure changes in troponin levels non-invasively, without the need for blood draws.

Professor Kevin Fynn, CEO of Ticking Heart, shared:
“This grant represents a major step forward in our mission to make heart attack diagnosis faster, simpler, and more accessible. Our technology aims to support healthcare providers in delivering timely care, particularly in regions with limited access to traditional blood testing. We’re grateful for the support from the Western Australian government and excited to bring this breakthrough technology closer to reality.”

With over 90% of chest pain cases in EDs unrelated to cardiac issues, yet requiring rapid assessment, our device aims to provide faster, more accessible diagnostic support. This will be especially valuable in remote or rural areas where access to blood testing is limited, helping to improve patient outcomes worldwide.

Stay tuned as we work to bring this breakthrough technology to life. Together, let’s make heart health more accessible for everyone!
